You need to check the manufacturer's specifications. Because of the design
of the motor bearings, some drives will not be reliable if mounted
upside-down. Your warranty may even be voided if the drive is mounted
improperly. A bearing may not be able to support the weight of the platters
if the pull on the bearing is in the wrong direction.
