I have placed the following paper at my web site at
http://www.human-nature.com/rmyoung/papers/pap130.html
'The Role of the Internet in the Theory and Practice of Human Relations' 114K
In this talk I reflect on my own uses of the internet for academic
(especially psychoanalytic) and personal purposes and on its current
and future roles in publishing and other aspects of communication. I
also offer some statistics on net use and reflections on three recent
books on the net:
John Naughton, _A Brief History of the Future: The Origins of the
Internet_ (Weidenfeld
& Nicholson, 1999)
Michael Lewis, _The New New Thing: How Some Man You Never Heard of
Just Changed Your Life_ (on Jim Clark) (Hodder Staughton, 1999) and
Tim Berners-Lee, _Weaving the Web: The Past, Present and Future of
the World Wide Web by Its Inventor_ (Orion Business Books, 1999).
The paper is the revised text of a talk given to the Psycho-Social
Studies Group at the Centre for Social and Economic Research of the
Faculty of Economics and Social Science, University of the West of
England, Bristol, 14 March 2000.
Most of my other writings, including several recent papers on various
psychological aspects of the internet, are accessible at
