Hm. I've been told, and do so follow, that setting hens need to be removed
and brought out to eat and poop once a day so they don't starve to death.
My Banties have both taken to covering, very aggressively, everything the
big hens lay. They definitely lose weight, and won't stay out to eat much
even when I take the eggs and boot them out the door. My neighbor remembers
the hens on his farm going off to set and coming back weeks later totally
emaciated.
Wonder where that emu dad gets his fat....
