The survey results have been interesting for me, as i am beginning the
paleo diet. thank you for asking the survey questions.
I've only been eating this way for four months, and i am not
strict paleo but diary, grains and sugars seem to be the biggies for
me and i try to totally avoid them.
> 1) Why did you choose the paleo plan?
I've tried other diets that claimed to be the "way humans should eat"
and I have always been on a search to find a natural diet. I tried
macrobiotics for a couple of years. (a mostly vegetarian, high complex
carbohydrate diet, though no dairy, no sugar and minimal fruit)
> 2) How long have you been on a paleo diet?
four months.
> 3) Which plan do you most closely follow
Neanderthin
> 4) What have been your results - health improvements, weight loss,
> etc.
actually I have gained weight, but I was underweight before
starting a paleo diet.
more energy, more solid sleep, less stress. Digestion is
better, skin looks clear, also i have colour in my face and i used to
be so pale.
> 5) Did you have any addictions when you started that were hard to kick; if
> so, how did you do it (cold turkey or slow withdrawal)???
sugar and grains, for sure. i find the gradual withdrawal worked
better for me... i cut out sugar but still used maple syrup for a
while, and when i cut out grains i still ate quinoa, amaranth for a
while.
> 6) Are there any "paleo foods" which you exclude from the diet because they
> don't work for you?
no, i eat anything. :)
> 7) Are there any "non-paleo foods" which you seem to be able to handle in
> small quantities while still maintaining your health improvements,
> etc.?
this list seems long but i find life is smoother if i am not strict
about the following: butter, yams, vinegars, stevia, cashews, cocoa
powder, storebought salad dressings (when eating out), barbecue sauce
(eating out), miso, tofu. i had chinese food last night and was
eating baby corn before i realised oh, i guess this is corn. :)
> 8) What is a typical paleo day for you? (I'm particularly interested in
> what you all have for breakfast as I don't like eggs)
i munch on something, a handful of nuts, some jerky, leftovers from
supper, sometimes i want a green salad.
i eat a lot of jerky these days, i find i am nibbling on it all day.
> 9) Do you take any vitamins, supplements?
fish oil, flax oil, vitamin E, vitamin C
> 10) What about exercise?
walking and cycling as transportation, hiking a few times a week, and
power housecleaning. ;)
