Quite possibly, under some conditions. The Masai, whose diet is
rather high in cholesterol and animal fat, have average total
cholesterol in the 115-145 range. Mann G. et al 1972,
"Atherosclerosis in the Masai," American Journal of Epidemiology,
95:1, Jan. 1972, pp. 26-37. Their caloric intake tended to be
low, however, so that is another variable to consider.
