We tend to include finishes investigation into either the documentation phase
of a project, or include it as part of the specifications, particularly if
the client is targeting a "period of significance". We had the same window
situation at the Century Club, where the window sash and frames were painted
black, but originally were painted "buff" to more closely resemble the
surrounding stone and terra-cotta. We repainted them the original color. On
the other hand, we determined what the original storefront colors were
(greens) at the Pottery Barn store at Broadway and Houston, and LPC allowed
the client to paint it as they wished (yellow). Go figure.
