Towards an Africa without Borders Conference Invitation
The Department of African Languages and Literature,
UW-Madison invites you to the conference, "Towards
an Africa without Borders: Unification and
Fundamental Change," to be held at the University of
Wisconsin-Madison from October 24 to 26, 2003.
The conference's purpose is to bring scholars,
writers, and political activists together to discuss
theoretical and practical approaches to change and
unification in Africa within the context of
Pan-Africanism.
The keynote speakers include Prof. Ngugi Wa
Thiong'o, Prof. Angela Davis, and Prof. Maina Wa
Kinyatti. We are also expecting several other
scholars and activists from Zimbabwe, Nigeria, South
Africa, Botswana, and Cameroon. The conference
promises a timely and productive discussion over the
future of change in Africa.
We are very pleased to be working with the Wisconsin
Book Festival (which attracts about 8,000 People
over five days). UW-Professor Daniel Kunene will
host Prof. Ngugi and Prof. Maina for readings and
conversations for an event titled "Barrel of a
Pen-Literature and Resistance". The book festival
website is at http://www.wisconsinbookfestival.org/.
