The Johnny Winston, Jr. 2001 Streetball Challenge and Block Party will be held on Saturday August 11, 2001 from 12:00 noon to 6:00 p.m. at Penn Park (South Madison).  The Streetball Challenge is an Adult Men's Basketball tournament featuring some of the best basketball players in the City of Madison, Milwaukee, Beloit, Rockford and other cities.  Players include several former U.W. basketball athletes.  Players who don't have a team but want to play are invited to participate in the "Playground All-Star Game" at 3 p.m.  A slam dunk contest will take place immediately after the championship game.      

The "block party" activities for youth and families include: Power 105.9 disc jockey's LaTone Heart and "3D" playing the best in hip hop, R & B and dance music, Madison School-Community Recreation's (M.S.C.R.) Art Cart, Neighborhood Intervention Program's (NIP) "Fastest Brother and Sister Race", City of Madison Fire Department Fire Trucks, the Summer League Awareness Movement's (S.L.A.M.) youth basketball program all-star game and basketball shooting contests.  

Vendors will be on hand selling BBQ ribs and chicken dinners.  The Southside Raiders Youth Football and Cheerleading Program will conduct fundraising activities by selling hotdogs, beverages and will accept donations for their program.

Sponsors for this event include: M.S.C.R., South Madison Anti-Drug Coalition, Genesis Behavioral Services, Boys & Girls Club of Dane County, Neighborhood Intervention Program, JP Hair Design, Cellcessories, Power 105.9 and North American Rotisserie.
