The following invitation (in blue) is being sent to local governments
and community organizations to solicit ideas on how HUD may work
with communities to to develop a local homeownership event, or to
promote local homeownership program efforts as part of National Homeownership Week (June 3 through 10, 2000). While
homeownership in the United States is at an all time high, the rates
of homeownership among lower income households, racial minorities,
female headed households, and persons with disabilities is significantly
lower. HUD, the Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development
Authority (WHEDA), and Fannie Mae are especially interested
in working with lenders, local governments, and community
organizations to promote homeownership opportunities for
these households .
HUD, WHEDA, and Fannie Mae staff will be meeting at the Reuss
Federal building on April 18 to discuss potential strategies to promote
homeownership during Homeownership Week, and throughout the year.
This is an open meeting, and you or another individual representing
your agency, lenders, the local Realtors association, or other community
organizations working to promote homeownership are invited to
discuss how HUD, Fannie Mae and WHEDA can work to plan or
support events within the Madison area.
Invitation
Please join us at HUD on Tuesday, April 18, 2000, at 10:00 a.m., for
a meeting to discuss National Homeownership Week. The meeting will
be held in Room 490D of the West Tower of the Reuss Federal
Building, 310 West Wisconsin Avenue, Milwaukee, WI .
Homeownership Week is scheduled for June 3-10, 2000. During
Homeownership Week hundreds of communities across the country will
host events to strengthen homeownership initiatives. In past years,
these events have included homebuyer fairs, seminars and workshops,
official proclamations, open houses, ground breakings, dedications, etc..
Participating in National Homeownership Week can provide substantial
benefits to communities. In the past, well planned Homeownership
Week events have received substantial attention from local officials and
the media. This publicity will raise the visibility of homeownership
programs and can help attract potential beneficiaries, new partners,
and other forms of community support.
The April 18, 2000 meeting will afford you with an opportunity to
discuss how HUD, WHEDA and Fannie Mae may assist you in
implementing an effective event in your community. We strongly
encourage you to begin planning events in cooperation with other
interested organizations and community members. Homeownership Week
Planning Guides will be available at our April 18, 2000 meeting to assist
in the planning process. To assure adequate seating we request that
those persons who are planning on attending the meeting to R.S.V.P.
to David Balcer by e-mail [log in to unmask] or by phone at
414-297-3214, Extension 8009.
