ANNOUNCEMENT OF POSITION
The Department of Communication Arts at the University of Wisconsin-Madison
is seeking candidates for a position as a tenure-track Assistant Professor
(unless qualifications require appointment at a higher rank) to begin
August 2000 in one of two areas: (1) Media Effects or (2) Social Influence,
both broadly construed. For either position, expertise in statistics and
quantitative research methodology is required. Applications from
candidates in either area who demonstrate expertise in related subfields
such as health communication, small group communication, negotiation,
computer mediated communication, persuasion, or information technology are
particularly welcome. The Ph.D. or equivalent is required.
To achieve tenure, probationary faculty are expected to meet the standards
of excellence established by the Department of Communication Arts and the
University of wisconsin in three areas: research, teaching, and service.

Studies to begin August 2000. The scholar appointed will have a record of
outstanding research in film history, theory, and/or criticism. It is
desirable for the candidate to have expertise in either (a) a national
cinema of Asia, Africa, Europe, or Latin America, or (b) the history and
theory of film animation. Senior applicants will also be considered for
appointment to Directorship of the Wisconsin Center for Film and Theater
Research. The Ph.D. or equivalent is required.
