Hi All--
My birthday is just around the corner and the drill at
work is that a cake or other sweet, flour-laden treats
are brought for the person of honor. Not many people
know about my gluten intolerance, and those who do
don't understand the finer nuances, such as using the
proper baking powder, gf vanilla, preservatives, etc.
I don't want to stroll around the office declaring my
gf status in detail, so do any of you have any
suggestions? (There's also the chance noone will bring
anything, so I might appear arrogant to assume my
coworkers are planning a shindig by telling everyone
about my diet.)
I just read Jax Lowell's book, "Against the Grain" and
found it really quite wonderful explaining how to
handle social situations - but there wasn't one quite
like this one. I've been at this job almost two years,
but still haven't quite fit in...have to be here 15
years for that.
In the office I worked prior to this, the birthday
person was the one who brought the treats...which
makes more sense to me, considering the growing
numbers of food-sensitive people, such as diabetics,
allergics, etc.
Any suggestions are welcome...I'm truly grateful. I'll
summarize - for anyone who finds themself in a similar
situation.
