My husband (a Celiac) is going to see his GI tomorrow. He wants to ask
him about having two of our children tested.
My husband was diagnosed in 1995. Our oldest, now 12, has not been
officially tested, but we put her on the gf diet because she was in pain
after almost every time she ate, and she improved dramatically on the
diet.
Everything I cook here is gluten-free, but I do buy regular crackers and
mac-n-cheese for myself and other two children, ages 10 (boy) and 6
(girl). They also are allowed to eat gluten away from home.
Our son tends toward constipation and diarrhea. He also has started to
develop some white bumps around his mouth similar to raised white heads.
(He has a few pimples too, so I don't know if this is early acne or a
reaction to something.)
Our youngest daughter doesn't seem to have any bowel problems, but she
has had skin problems off and on since she was a toddler. Several times
(even after being out of diapers) she has had a rash on one of her
buttocks. One time it even turned purplish, like an old burn, but
eventually faded. Now for awhile she has had white bumps on and around
her elbows. Sometimes they itch.
I don't want to put either of them on the diet if they don't need it;
neither do I want to feed them something that might cause long term
damage.
I really, REALLY don't want them to go through an endoscopy. How
accurate is the blood test? Is there more than one kind? What exactly do
we ask the doctor to do?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
