I am sorry I missed the thread on Urinary Tract Infections. I just read the
summary presented by Wendi Benecke <[log in to unmask]> and I did not
see anyone mention D-Mannose. Here is some info I posted to the Immune List
that you might find helpful. I think that the Celiac condition may
predispose one to UTI's more than the general population, yes, but it
depends on several factors that vary from indiv to indiv. such as diet,
severity, ability to fight bacteria, etc. My concern is mostly how to deal
with it once you get it.

The following are some articles mentioning D-Mannose as a remedy for urinary
tract, kidney and bladder infections:

* Article published in Townsend Letter for Doctors and Patients Wright J:
D-Mannose for bladder and kidney infections.Towsend Letter 1999;192:96-98.

* Article published by Jacob Teitelbaum, M.D. Newsletter Vol 4, No. 1
 (2001)

* Article featuring Alternative Medicine Magazine What's Hot 7-8-99

* Featured in Nutrition & Healing June 1999 edition D-Mannose and urinary
  tract infections.

For information see:

My experience is not just hearsay or from reading articles. A friend of
mine had a urinary tract infection, refused to take antibiotics fearing a
downward spiral of residual effects. She was told that Dr. Wright at the
Tahoma clinic in Seattle (Kent) Washington has been using D-Mannose with
great success. She used it and it cleared up the urinary tract infection.
So there are effective alternatives to antibiotics!!
