I too have switched to "Birks or barefoot" all year round, and haven't had
foot problems of any sort (structural, fungal, epidermal) since. I've never
had a fungal problem anyway as I've been one to eschew shoes. I wear wool or
cotton socks, usually ones I've knit myself, only when the snow is deep.

For those who are following this thread thinking that Birks are not for you,
you can see their catalog at http://www.birkenstock.com, they have a shoe
for every occasion from work to weddings. Maybe Imelda Marcos would be
impressed? Certainly she'd have been more comfortable.
