AccessWorld, the American Foundation for the Blind's technology magazine,
is a comprehensive resource for obtaining the latest information on
assistive technology. It includes objective product evaluations of screen
readers, screen magnifiers, video magnifiers, and braille notetakers, as
well as mainstream products such as personal data assistants (PDA's),
databases, tax-preparation software, and music production software.
AccessWorld also brings you the latest assistive technology news; on the
job profiles of successful people who are blind or visually impaired; a
calendar of events; conference reports and more.
According to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 16 million
Americans are diabetic, costing $105 billion in annual health care costs.
Of those, over 5 million have experienced vision loss. In September,
AccessWorld will feature a product evaluation of blood glucose meters. We
will review the four meters that can be connected to voice units that can
speak the information displayed on their screens for users who are blind or
visually impaired. Blood glucose meters covered will include: Accu-Chek
VoiceMate and three LifeScan meters--One Touch SureStep, One Touch Basic,
and One Touch Profile. The article will also mention the OneTouch Ultra,
which is rated number one by Consumer Reports but is not accessible. A
features chart, a ratings chart ,and a section on what is on the horizon
for new technology will be included.
AccessWorld is published six times a year, in your choice of on-line, large
