In the city, Rainbow Grocery. In the East Bay, Whole Foods in Berkeley, the
Food Mill in Oakland. There are a lot of pretty decent health food stores
around. Whole Foods is a full-scale supermarket and natural products store
that stocks grass-fed, free-range, meats and organic veggies. Worth a trip
just to browse.
You won't need to count carbs exactly, but if you keep your portions small,
especially of the starchier, higher-glycemic ones, you'll lose more
effectively. I highly recommend eating everything you can raw or rare;
you'll get more enzymes from it, and develop a finer sense of flavor,
satiation, and what your body really needs. Good luck!
