Yes, it is celery root. I have seen seed for it in some of the fancy seed
catalogs (like Shepherd's probably) but haven't tried growing it. I've had
no luck with growing stalk celery, but this being a root, it might do as
well as the turnips and rutabagas have done here. I have slightly sandy clay
soil. Soon to be amended with aged, untreated sawdust chock-full of chicken
manure. <g>
Celery root / celeriac is obscenely expensive in the grocery stores, but so
are artichokes and star fruits and other good things. Sometimes my body
says I just gotta have them! It wouldn't make much sense to occasionally
indulge my taste for desserts and NOT indulge myself with veggies too, now
would it? I have never balked at paying high prices for produce as long as
it is fresh and ripe. However, being single, there is nobody to scold me for
going over the grocery budget "again". As long as the dogs get their paleo
meaty bones, they will let me buy anything I want!
