Second International Conference on Parents with Disabilities and their 
Families
May 2-4, 2002
Oakland, California

The Second International Conference on Parents with Disabilities and their 
Families has been re-scheduled for May 2-4, 2002.  Postponed from its 
original October dates due to 9/11, the three day conference will include 
workshops, panels and presentations by national and international speakers 
across a wide range of disciplines. Space is limited, so please take the time 
to register now.  Early Registration ends February 10.  Regular registration 
ends April 7.  The Second International Conference will be hosted by Through 
the Looking Glass (TLG), the U.S. National Resource Center for Parents with 
Disabilities. Conference attendees will include parent leaders, disability 
advocates, nurses and childbirth educators, social workers, mental health 
professionals, occupational therapists, early intervention specialists, 
protective services staff, disability services staff, parenting educators, 
reproductive health workers, rehabilitation counselors, legal practitioners, 
and public policy makers. A National Task Force on Parents with Disabilities 
and their Families will reconvene at the conference.

**REGISTRATION DEADLINES AND FEES**
--General Conference Registration:
     *EARELY REGISTRATION: $300     *REGULAR REGISTRATION: $350
          (through February 10, 2002)        *LATE and ON-SITE REGISTRATION: 
$395
          (February 11 – April 7, 2002)      
          (April 8 – May 4, 2002)
--A Conference Day rate of $150 is available.

**MEALS**
Each General Registration Conference fee includes three continental 
breakfasts and three lunches.  A one-day-only rate includes breakfast and 
lunch for that day.

**CONTINUING EDUCATION UNITS (CEUS)**
The conference has applied for continuing education units for the following 
professions: psychologists; marriage, family and child counselors; social 
workers; nurses; and rehabilitation counselors. There will be a $25 charge 
for CEUs.

**DISABILITY NEEDS ACCOMMODATIONS**
Conference materials will be available in alternate formats.  Sign language 
interpreters, real-time captioning or assistive listening devices will be 
available.  You must request these accommodations by April 1, 2002.  The 
conference will provide personal assistance services only during conference 
sessions or scheduled meals.  If you would like information on local personal 
assistance services, please check the appropriate box on the registration 
form.  If you need an accessible hotel room, you should contact TLG first.

**PLEASE NOTE: We are conducting a 3-year National reseach project through 
May 2002 to learn more about the experiences of families in which a parent 
has a disabity and is raising a teenager (ages 11-17).  Disability can 
involve physical, visual, systemic, hearing, cognitive, learning,
