The time frame varies from person to person. I eliminated wheat from my
diet in August. Until February of the next year, I didn't have the
direct symptoms of a wheat reaction but no other improvement. When
improvement started, it took at least a month until I stopped seeing
improvement.
I noticed a 4-6 week delay when I eliminated dairy before other problems
that diary was causing started to improve. In both cases, I know the
problems that resolved or lessened slowly were related to the food I
removed because they return if I eat the problem food.
I belong to the GFCFrecipes list on yahoo groups and some list members
are parents of autistic children. From their comments, I would say 2-4
weeks is way too short of a time to know that the GFCF diet will not
help.
