I have gluten intolerance, cows milk protein intolerance, yeast
intolerance and egg intolerance. My daughter is 6 years old. I am
currently having stool analysis and gene testing done by Dr. Fine
(Enterolabs) to determine if she has gluten intolerance or the gene's
for it or other intolerances. I'm seeking info from anyone with
children with digestive problems that have caused small amounts (about 1
teaspoon to 1 tablespoon) of feces in the underpants approx 4 times a
day. The feces is tar like and/or dry flakey. She seems constipated
yet prunes, metamucil, increased water consumption and fresh fiberous
veges don't do much to change things. She does have a bowel movement
about everyother day and still has the problems sometimes even after a
bowel movement. Once she is able to pass a normal size bowel movement
she will have a day or two with no "smudges" in her underpants. She is
not aware that she is having these "accidents" throughout the day. She
does not complain of stomach pain, has normal growth (above average in
height and size -in 95% range). Dr. Fine says her stool analysis for
gluten intolerance is borderline so he is waiting for the gene study (in
about 2 weeks) to determine his final diagnosis. In the meantime, I'm
trying to eliminate milk products to see if this is causing the
problem. I'm also eliminating chocolate as she seems to consume a lot
of this.
Has anyone had children that have had a similar problem? What was the
cause?
Thanks very much,
Jill in Texas
