Amadeus Schmidt wrote in response to Madeline Mason's posts:
You might be suffering from a omega-6 *deficit*. Olive oil is low in all
EFAs and flax oil is exorbitantely high in ALA but not so high in omega-6
LA. LA is necessary for most prostaglandin formation. You could simply add
some sunflower oil to work together with the flax oil as a EFA source. If
you manage to find a non-heated flavourful sunflower brand.

My reply:
It is unlikely that she would have an omega 6 deficit. Our need for omega
6s is very low. Further, omega 6s are abundant enough in seeds, nuts, and
vegetables. If she needed more omega 6s, it would be far better to eat some
seeds or nuts than oil. Most modern oils are treated by high eat, even those
sold in natural foods stores.

The only companies I know of in the US that sell virgin pressed, unrefined,
unheated oils (other than olive or flax oil) are Omega Nutrition and Flora.
They are sold in dark black, amber, or green bottles, which exclude light.
They can be found in natural foods stores or ordered by mail. They should
not be heated or cooked with, only used raw, to avoid damaging the fragile
PUFAs. Due to their high PUFA content, should be used very sparingly.
