I got this post from other list, and I hope you can answer the problem
for us. Leslie--

Hello, everybody!

First of all, I would like to welcome everybody those of you attended
2000
Ohio AADB convention. I hoped you had a wonderful time at the 2000 AADB
convention!!!

Second of all, I have a very serious problem, maybe Mr. Leslie Peterson
can
help me with a laptop problem. Well, first of all, I ordered a large
print
called 'LP-WINDOWS' by VisionWare, Inc. in Brookline, Massachusetts, USA,
I
called an author to order an upgrade software for the installation for a
new
machine. He said it costs $100 for an upgrade software. I felt $100 is
fine
since the oldest upgrade was $75 the last time so, it was worth it
because
of the technology advances and it is very worth of it. But he did not
tell
me what it has or ask me anything. He simply tells me the cost of an
upgrade
cost, that is all. I placed an order for him to mail the software. He
informed me that all large print software are in a CDROM format. I
understood that. No more floppy disk. I accepted that since I have a
CDROM
drive (Drive D:) and then, waited for 2 weeks and finally, here comes the
program. I read the manual. It has LP-WIN with Speech. And other one
LP-WIN
only (comes in a floppy disk). I finished reading almost WHOLE everything
for me to learn the new features that's all. I was going to fine a floppy
disk. But it did not include any floppis only CD-ROM disc, that's all. I
thought that they changed their policy without a notice so, went ahead to
install that. I was VERY surprised that it came with a speech
capabilities.
I tried to install with a custom. I hit CUSTOM and surprised me! It
forced
me to install a speech software. I got upset! I had to hit 'Next' button.
Then, went ahead to install because when I finish install that, I would
turn
off the speech, since I'm totally deaf! :) Anyway, I found it weird that
it
had a speech included. I tried to turn off the speech. It was weird. I
noticed that LP-WIN worked weird, because I have a problem with LP-WIN
panning. When I pans across the screen, I noticed that LP-WIN pans in a
terribly SLOW-FAST-SLOW-FAST-SLOW that is VERY weird!!! Also, when I pans
the screen the green links (I set my browser to green as default for
links)
turns into blue spills of the green colored. It looks like I spilled the
blue fluids on the screen. It was very WEIRD!!! (The blue spills only
happens on Netscape Communicator). But if no LP-WIN active no problem,
like
no spills at all. ONLY if I have LP-WIN active, that is all. I had to
reboot
the laptop and ran LP-WIN only (without Netscape or Internet software)
and
LP-WIN still pans in a VERY SSSLLLOOOWWW and even normal panning speeds.
I
hate that trick that LP-WIN did on a laptop!! I checked the memory. It
has a
64 MB of RAM memory, good. I checked the disk space. She has 3 MB of
free.
Good. I checked her colors. It has High 256 colors with 800X600 settings,
it
worked perfectly without LP-WIN. I talked with Stephen Wenzler about the
color problems and panning problem. He suggested me to try 16 colors. I
did.
Unfortunately, it did no good. :( I myself decided that I would try
640X480
instead of 800X600 but DARN IT!!! It did NOTHING to help with the panning
problem!!! I believe that it has a conflict with either the video card or
speech capabilities that affects LP-WIN performances, I don't know.

I have a question for you. Does anyone ever uses speech capabilities with
LP-WIN that does not suit your needs? Does anyone prefers to use LP-WIN
only
(without speech added to the disc)??? If any of you who do not use
speech,
how would I get one that does not include a speech capabilities??? I
would
like to know about it.

I would appreciate this if you can help me with this. Thank you very much
for your help. Have a nice week! Take care. Bye for now. :)

Yours,
John Cunniff
