Amadeus Schmidt posted a rundown of foods that contain sodium in high
amounts..... but that is only if you eat a HUGE amount of them, not a
realistic amount.
By the way, Amadeus, grams mean very little to most Americans, who have very
little familiarity with metric conversions and numbers. These charts can be
deceptive give that few people think in grams, much less ounces. I've made
some conversions below.
>>>Salt, I run a query on my paleo-marked items.
There are quite a few with a lot of salt.
In RDA 2 grams salt are listed.
Examples:
2 grams of salt are in
900 g swiss chard---that's 2 pounds of raw chard!
1000 g beef lungs---2.2 pounds (common consumption?)
1200 g egg (various)---eggs are the highest in salt of animal foods, but I
don't think most people eat them by the dozen!
2000 g lamb--71 ounces or 4.5 pounds!
2300 g celery---15 and 1/2 cups of chopped celery (nice BIG snack!)
2500 g beets or spinach--15 cups of boiled beets or 45 CUPS raw spinach!!!
3400 g beef---120 ounces of beef!!
I will also note, that vegetables, meats, and eggs contains sodium but NO
chloride. And on a mixed diet of vegetables, fruits, and eggs/meat... one
is far less likely to take in 2 grams of sodium per day. The whole foods of
course provide potassium, not found in the table salt.
Back to work,
Rachel
