I remember someone, possibly David Sedaris, writing about the death of
his cat.  He had it cremated and after picking up the ashes, he realized
that there was no appropriate place to strew the ashes since the cat had
avoided going outside at all costs.  He ended up tossing the ashes on
his living room carpet, vaccuuming them up, and throwing the vaccuum
cleaner bag away.  Very touching.

My wife had her dog cremated and my personal recollection of those ashes
has them like a white portland cement with a number of 1/4 to 3/8 inch
bone fragments.  They were delivered in a plastic bag packed in a
plastic box.  The ashes are in the ground, the box holds plumbing parts.
