Useless rake

Napping with books on warm afternoons
the porch swing sings its graces
to the hummingbird and the wasp
lost in leafy places

They dart most merrily; they do
as the wicker creaks in song
of old man frost and the passing time
in summer now gone long

They bob the gurgling garden pond
to the spirit stones delight
as pixie moss tells lilly pad
hold me tight tonight

They pass my old rake too
leaning useless by the leaves
that flurry down in reds and golds
just pretty as you please

No I won't be taken in
by all I have to do
Let rake and leaf contemplate
and know my day is through.

.
