I wanted to share a good surprise I got today.  About
ten days ago I e-mailed Winn-Dixie (a grocery store
chain here in Texas) inquiring about the gf status of
their generic and store brand products.  To be honest,
I wasn't expecting much of a reply, and at first, all
I got was an e-mail saying my request had been
forwarded (great, I thought, it won't go anywhere).  A
few days later, I got a letter from Perrigo, stating
that they manufacture a lot of generics for stores,
and to call them with lot numbers from packaging to
verify that they made it and gf status.  The next day
I received a five-page(!) listing of gf products from
Astor products (they had tried to e-mail it to me, but
my computer didn't translate it).  Three days ago, I
received a letter from Deep South Products, stating
that all of their products are gf, and included some
gift certificates (always appreciated!).

Today I came home to find another thick packet in my
mailbox from Astor.  When I opened it, it included a
letter from the woman (Abegail Castillo) who had sent
me the gf listing.  She sent me the copies of what she
used to research the gf status of their products and
thanked me for "giving me the opportunity to learn
about celiac disease and gluten-free diets.  I never
knew this disease even existed."  The materials she
sent were print-outs from celiac.com, nowheat.com,
gfkitchenserver.com, and glutenfreemall.com.  So kudos
to the owners of those sites - I thank you for putting
the effort out to maintain these wonderful sites and
providing a resource not just for celiacs, but those
who help us too.
