Dan is quite correct, RS232 is just an electrical standard, it says nothing
at all about what is send back and forth.
there is protocols and there is protocols.
Let's compair it to the internet again.
Having a serial port is kinda like just having a basic modem connection.
Beyond that you have to have higher level protocols that detail how the data
is structured.
Serial ports have nothing at all to do with all that.
As I said before, it is like all the TCP/IP, pop3 and that medium level stuff
that makes sure that everybody knows how to handle different kinds of data.
If you want to know more, study network protocols, it'll give you a headache.
And, NO, BrailleLites and the like no absolutely nothing about all that kind
of stuff
If you aren't confused yet, I havn't explained well enough.
