Of course, one alternative the author of the article did not mention is
that you could stick with the older analog technology, such as cassette
tape.  It may have lower audio quality, and each generated copy may have
even slightly lower quality, but you can copy as often as you like to as
many other analog sources as you like, and the copies won't expire anytime
soon if you buy good quality tape and take care of the tapes.  As he
hinted in the article, if you don't like the idea of overly protective
copy-protected recordings, and like even less the idea of music you buy
"expiring" after a certain period of time unless you pay more, then you
can vote with the wallet.  Don't buy that crap.
