I just ordered Earthlink DSL a few weeks ago and I look forward to being
hooked up in the next few days. It is actually twice as fast as the DSL
service offered by my local phone company. both services cost the same.
In major cities, such as Chicago, there often is a choice for DSL
providers as well as a range of broadband choices generally. Shop around
for price, customer service, speed, reliability, and service on your
block. I talked to others here using the service and checked out several
Newsgroups for Chicago area people, some of which had comments on
people's experiences with broadband providers.

Subject: Verizon DSL
Hi
I am doing a little homework. DSL has finally come to my street and I am
being solicited by Verizon Online DSL to sign up with their service.
It is very tempting, especially the "connected at" rate, they advertize
but can't guarantee.
I have been very happy with my current dial up account even though the
best rate I can get is 38 kbps. Their excellent 24/7 support and other
factors weigh heavy with me.
Are any of you using Verizon DSL? Would you recommend it? Is their
support any good?
I just sat on hold over 20 minutes trying to talk to a customer service
type to get some references in my area and ended up hanging up. Not a
good sign.
Thanks, Stewart
