Mark Riffey <[log in to unmask]> posted notice of a service to
CharityChannel's TECHNOLOGY list (http://www.charitychannel.com),
called Callingpost (http://www.callingpost.org). This free service,
geared towards, civic, nonprofit and volunteer organizations, lets
groups create an online telephone calling list.
Users must first set up an account, add the names of numbers of
those to be called, dial a special toll-free number, can then record
a message of up to 30 seconds, which is then sent, via Callingpost,
to the recipients on the list. What's more, you can add any amount of
phone numbers in the United States to a group, and can manage any
number of groups through your account. You can also import a list of
contacts to your account address book on the Internet.
A few caveats exist, though. You cannot deliver messages to voicemail
accounts or phone numbers requiring extensions. Messages can only be
recorded using a phone, not over the Internet. And while the service
is free, it is sponsored by businesses that attach five-second
sponsorship ads along with the message. Also, the free service does
not allow political messages to be carried (there is a fee-based service
option available). Given the fact that the service is accessible to
users by phone or computer, it might prove a useful contact management
system for outreach efforts.
