Hello All,

I appreciate that Kelly forwarded my reviews of tutorials to this
list. Any comments pro or con are appreciated and can be sent to

I must comment on Jay Leventhal's remarks on my reviews.

1. I mentioned right up front that I write tutorials and the reader should
beware of potential bias.

2. I recommended that readers check them out for themselves.

3. I gave concrete examples of what I considered errors or poor
quality. Well, Jay, did I mistate anything.

4. More than a dozen readers sent me messages back concurring with my
observations, and 4 violently disagreed with me. Well, I guess that makes
a good review when people are interested enough to read it and comment.

5. Jay says I don't like anybody elsestutorials. I guess he didn't read
the whole review. I clearly point out that the tutorials from the Iowa
Commission for the Blind Windows Assist Project are filled with great
information and are certainly worth the money. I also consider the writing
style therein to be very boring -- the reader is told dozens of times that
a certain key does a certain job, but that is another matter
entirely. Clearly, well-organized and correct content are the most
inportant factors. Style of presentation is more a matter of taste than
correctness. Lots of folks don't like my braille layout because I leave a
blank line between paragraphs instead of placing a tabe before the first
line of a paragraph. I find it easier to skim when there is extra
space. I use this stylistic change to please my readers and the heck with
the braille authority. But, the marketplace dictates whether style is
rewarded or not by the consumer's pocketbook.

6. The wyfiwyg newsletter now has over 1700 subscribers so I am doing lots
of good or causing lots of trouble. You be the judges.
