First, thanks for all your suggestions!!
I stumbled across the problem....it was a bad floppy drive.
I unplugged the cdrw and floppy, and voila!!...I had video, and it booted
into XP.
Thought it might be the cable but switched cables and same thing....strange
there were *no* beeps....the fans whirred, but no video, no nothing.
It would *not* boot with that floppy. Luckily I had a spare,
plugged it in, and problem solved.
