H-g's use a fixed base and roam around the area. Native Californians in my
area would have a main village in the mountain foothills. In the fall they
would head to the higher elevations to gather acorns. The young people would
go, with their babies, and the elders would stay in the village. These trips
would last several days, or weeks, and they would make a new temporary camp.
At other times of the year, they would head to the desert to harvest agave,
and to the seashore to gather clams, and catch fish with nets.

In this case their roaming territory might cover 100 miles east-west and
maybe 50 north-south. Other tribes in other areas might have more restricted
roaming areas -- one person I read of generally stayed within a 20 mile
radius.
