While my comments are not really a response to the
paleoness of potatoes, I thought some of you would
find this interesting.

I was reading an article about mitochondrial DNA, and
the migration(s) of Native Americans into North
America (which, by the way, seems to be getting
earlier and earlier every year). Previously it was
thought that all migrations started in Asia. Now, it
appears there may have been at least one migration
from Northern Europe to North America during a period
when a passable ice flow existed between the
continents. The dates of this particular migration
took place 12,000 - 36,000 years ago, depending on how
large the "founding group" was.

If any of you want to research this further, use
"haplogroup" or "haplogroup x" as a search terms. I
got a bunch of interesting hits.
