I'd argue that lots of times short-term solutions are best from a
pragmatic point of view. Medium-to-long-term solutions are sometimes
just not available, practical, or (widely) palatable.

I perceive the best aspect of civilization to be the enrichment of
intellectual life. That makes it all worthwhile for me (so far).
