The preconference, "Evolving Services for People Who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing," is being sponsored by the Association of Specialized and Cooperative Library Agencies (ASCLA) of the American Library Association at the 2001 Annual Conference in San Francisco
How have the library services to people who are deaf or hard of hearing changed over the years? What innovations have a difference? What have we learned? This preconference will consist of several workshops that will feature model programs, show participants how to assess the needs of their deaf or hard of hearing users, and give them information that will help them create programs and services that meet those needs in the new millennium. A tour of the San Francisco Public Library's Deaf Services Center will be a highlight.
The speakers include Ken Arcia, coordinator, Deaf Counseling, Advocacy, and Referral Agency
Hard-of-Hearing /Deafened Adult Program, Deaf Counseling; Advocacy, and Referral Agency, San Francisco; Marti Goddard, Access Services Manager at the San Francisco Public Library; Monica Reed, director, Safety Harbor Public Library, Safety Harbor, Fla.; Rosa Rodriquez, Deaf Services Coordinator, Safety Harbor Public Library, Fla.; Rhea Rubin, consultant, Oakland; and Arden Wong, Deaf Services Program Manager, San Francisco Public Library
