Dear David,
>able to access that institute's website. New York University also has a
post-
>doctoral program in psychoanalysis, as does Adelphi University. I know,
Is psychoanalytic training typically done at the post doctoral level? I'm an
undergraduate right now, and the Psychoanalysis, Sexuality, and Freud course
I'm taking is under the philosophy department. (It's very abstract and
appeals mostly to literary and art criticism utilizing a Freudian rubric,
but the exposure to Freudian terminology and the Freudian conceptualization
of the mind is invaluable.) Barring a class specifically on this topic, are
there general undergraduate psychology courses I should be sure to have
under my belt? That is, standard courses that might have additional
implications for psychoanalytic theory? (I'm wondering if I should pay
additional attention during my abnormal psych next semester, for example.)
And David, something that few professors here at UT-Austin can answer is
whether psychoanalysis really works. Is psychotherapy a viable method of
helping people lead healthier, happier lives?
Sincerely,
Tim Stewart.
