Six years have elapsed since the toppling in July 22, 1994, of Sir Dawda Jawara, The Gambia's first president.... Student life was hard, however, but manageable and the rigors of his childhood and travels from Barrajally to Banjul, Achimota and then Glasgow prepared him for what was to follow later. While at Boys High School in the 1940s, Jawara once walked the 150 miles from Bathurst to Barrajally to spend the holidays with his family. This was at a time when transport facilities were poor...
