About 6 months ago there was an extremely protracted thread on the
subject of "ketone breath" on thenerve.com (the low carb list). The
general consensus was that quantity of water consumed was the major
determining factor... and I have found this to be true. If you
think you're drinking enough plain water and you have "ketone
breath" , you're NOT. Those ketones should be excreted in urine, but
without adequate water intake this doesn't happen. I had to triple
my hydration levels to eliminate bad breath and skin smell. This
also increased my rate of weight loss. Use of diruretics like
coffee or salt will also increase your need for water. In the
meantime, using a breath freshener called Breath Assure (capsule
containing sunflower oil, parsley seed oil, caps made of kosher
gelatin) will help, as will chewing on fresh parsley.
I think it's Karl Mackinnon that periodically mentions the Acquatic
Ape theory, and I would just like to say that we also think in this
household that there's some reasonable evidence that humans spend a
protracted period of our evolutionary history in coastal waters...
