There is much more to this story than the AP reported, including the
Catholic Church's rationale for its position. Did the Seattle Times
mention that the little girl still could have received her First
Communion -- by receiving from the chalice instead? Does anyone know if
the family pursued the (Vatican approved) option of a low-gluten host
which has worked well for some celiacs?
As a Roman Catholic, and a wife of a celiac (who does receive the Host
regularly) I was extremely disturbed by this article. It was not an
attempt to make celiac more widely known-- it was an attack on the
Church.
