Regarding using the pc speaker for MP3's:

I agree with the others, this probably won't work,
or work well enough to matter.  There is a driver (called "speaker.drv") which can be loaded that allows basic wave files, etc. to play through the PC speaker.  It is intended for simple system sounds, like "ding" sounds when you get new mail at work.  Beyond that it is nearly useless.  You are welcome to try it though, if you can find the driver anymore.  It appears Microsoft no longer has it on their website, but put the filename in a search engine and you'll probably come across it.  Take at look at Microsoft TID #Q87980 for more information on speaker.drv.  I have used it successfully on both Win 3.x and 9x platforms.  Honestly though, you're better off spending $40 on a cheap sound card and speakers.
