Most BIOSes I have seen have an entry under power management that says
something on the order of "Wake on DTR". That little setting tells the
power management firmware/software to listen on the com and lpt ports for
a DTR signal, short for Data Terminal Ready. When it gets a high DTR, the
software knows to keep the computer awake, or wake it up if it's
sleeping. All you need to do is set "Wake on DTR" to disable to keep that
from happening.
