Oddly enough, the State Supreme Court of Ohio (state or province of the US)
recently held that the local police are not legally responsible to protect
the lives of the citizenry, and it is up to the individual officer whether
or not he/she wants to protect civilian lives in a "deadly force" situation.
What a culture!

even "ponder" owning/using a firearm in NZ or neighbor Australia, right?
Unless your speaking of an aboriginal blowgun, eh? ;>)

Yep - people own guns - though not as hihgh (per population) as in USA / =
other countries..
of course - most/all of the cops do....
- but they do get into trouble with people shooting guns / robberies =
etc...
- so the bad guys must get the guns from somewhere
- Whether legally or not - They do get them somewhere..
gordon.
