When it comes to taking an opportunity based on my CP, I guess 2
instances immediately come to mind.First, prior to entering college I learned
I could get $644 a year in Vocational Rehabilitation money.(It's probably
more now as this was in 1976.) My father had such a good salary that I was
not eligible for any financial aid.We took advantage of this funding since I
attended a private college.
After I got a job , I rode the bus downtown & paid about $1.25 each
way.My doctor heard about this & mentioned that I should be eligible for a
handicapped pass .The fare using that was only 25 cents ! I had been paying
the regular fare for sometime. It certainly helped our household budget. An AB
coworker thought it was wrong for me to get the pass since I could walk, but
she hadn't lived my life so I didn't pay any attention. I guess my attitude
was as long as I, or my family was paying taxes why shouldn't I take the
"perks" offered to me because I have CP ??
