Brad, never a burning smell. When so inclined I'll take a meter to the PS and see what voltage I'm getting. Any sugggestions as to where and how to trace any shorts or opens on the MB?

  Hi Ian,
That sure sounds like a short to me. Does it smell like it's burning?

   I have a Celeron-based BookPC (FlexATX). ......
..... I've just noticed that when attaching the power cord to it, I
hear a hissing (as an air being released) .... It powers up, but only
sometimes actually boot/POST (no video, nuthin'). Also, when this PC is
connected to a Linksys KVM switch it fouls up (disables) the others
connected to the KVM (which gets its power thru KB port)....
