There are many excellent sites, some better organized than others, that are
helpful.
None are indexed by "Numbers" as such.
This is the MS KB article for Explanation of Error Codes Generated by Device
Manager :

LKB
I also like:
Windows 98 Annoyances:
http://www.annoyances.org/win98/
I have dozens of these, most of which I have tried and found useful. I can
send a much longer selection if you wish.
One of the most useful of all is Free PC Tech, run by the listowners:

Are there any reference manuals, websites etc that you can go to or
download which is like a dictionary of all the different numbers given
to various error messages that one can tap into to try and determine what
an error message is?.
