Yes;
the internal is quite a bit faster
according to www.iomega.com website the

parallel version :Sustained transfer rate::  0.8 MB/sec


The internal Atapi:Sustained transfer rate: Maximum: 2.4MB/sec

      I have both and the internal is about 3-4 times faster.
