Thanks to all, I have cured the boot problem with C prompts.

I deleted my autoexec.bat and config.sys since nothing was in them

boots up with first screen then to Win 95 screen then to first screen again
and right into the desktop.

rebooted 4-5 times and no errors anywhere   go figure

guess this gateway will run regardless
