AHEAD
The Association on Higher Education and Disability (AHEAD) is an
international, multicultural organization of professionals committed to
full participation in higher education for persons with disabilities.
The
Association is a vital resource, promoting excellence through education,
communication and training.

Abstract
The Executive Director (ED) reports directly to the Board of Directors
and
functions as the chief executive officer of the Association.  The ED is
responsible for the overall direction, implementation and supervision of
the business and programmatic affairs of the Association and its
headquarters in accordance with the purpose and policies formulated by
the
Board of Directors.  The ED provides information and leadership to the
Board by recommending action based both on membership needs and changing
trends in the field.

Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree in relevant field or equivalent combination of education
and experience
3 years management and supervision of staff
2 or more years experience in a human-service field
3 years increasing responsibility in fiscal management
Experience and knowledge of disability

Preferred Qualifications
Terminal degree in relevant field
5 or more years management and supervision experience
Experience in higher education
Experience working with a volunteer board
Experience with conference planning
Experience with grant writing and development

Selection Criteria
        Proven executive skills and decision making
        Success with external funds procurement
        Excellent communication skills
        Proven commitment to diversity
        Knowledge of administrative and supervisory principles and
        practices
        Proven ability to represent interests of a large and diverse
        organization


Essential Job Functions

Business Operations
        Supervise AHEADquarters personnel
        Responsible for fiscal management
        Manage AHEADquarters infrastructure and resources
        Link strategic and operational planning with budget process and
        AHEADquarters regulations
        Develop, evaluate and negotiate contractual agreements

Annual Conference and Training Initiatives
        Monitor conference planning and staff

        Orchestrate conference activities

Member Relations
        Maintain and facilitate good communication with members
        Work with the Board of Directors to coordinate recruitment and
retention of members

Program and Fiscal Development
        Responsible for identifying, writing and administrating grants,
        e.g. TRIO
        Responsible for other fundraising efforts

Information Management
        Responsible for oversight of the AHEAD web and related database
        information
        Responsible for document control, e.g. correspondence,
historical
        documents, board minutes, financial records, etc.
        Responsible for maintenance of board and conference manuals
        Responsible for board, government and grant reporting and
        communications

External Relations
        Responsible for governmental relations and education
        Serve as chief liaison with external groups

Association Products
        Responsible for the production, coordination and dissemination
of
        publications and products
