Hmm, sounds like a bit of over-kill to me.  Why use an embedded chip in
the label?  Why not just use bar coding?  Seems like it would be a lot
less expensive.

The article didn't say that the chip would have customer specific
information on it so bar coding should be enough.  You would have to
update the hand-held device though.
